A Medical Assistant assists doctors in the examination and treatment of patients. The EKG Technician operates EKG testing equipment leads and computer software for patient recordings. Additionally, the Medical Assistant and EKG Technician perform many routine tasks to ensure that doctors' offices, clinics, or hospitals are running efficiently.
Phlebotomy is also included with the Medical Assistant course training.
Upon successful completion of the Medical Assistant program, you will be awarded a Diploma and will be eligible to take the National Allied Health Professionals Nationally Registered
Certified Medical Assistant, Phlebotomy Technician, EKG Technician, Coding, and Pharmacology
Tech Certification Tests.
Typical Duties of a Medical Assistant
Takes and records vital signs and medical histories
Explains treatment procedures
Prepares patients for exams
Assists the doctor during examination
Performs a variety of basic laboratory tests
Sterilizes medical instruments
Maintains patient medical records
Records insurance forms and codes procedures correctly, handles patient correspondence and the scheduling of patient appointments
Typical Duties of an EKG Technician
Properly connects the various electrodes to chest, arms and legs of patients in preparation for the actual EKG test
Manipulates switches on the EKG machine and laptop computer to position the electrodes appropriately while a stylist records and stores tracings on an EKG machine
Prepares EKG digital computerized record for analysis by physicians
